As many of you already know, some retailers have been
selling the PSP games they have early. I was fortunate enough to get my
hands on Tony Hawks Underground 2 Remix, Wipeout Pure, and Twisted Metal
Head On. Now I present to you an in depth look at the cases, manuals,
inserts, UMD?s, and instructions of your standard PSP games! And if you
were wondering? yes, this is what people do when the have PSP games, and no
PSP to play them on :(
These
are the 3 games I have in my possession
A
better view of wipeout, the guinea pig of this whole article
A side by side
comparison of a PSP game (middle, Wipeout Pure) a Nintendo DS game
(left,Warioware Touched!) and a standard DVD case (right, in this case
Xbox?s Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2.) The PSP Case is about ?
inch shorter thana DVD case, and about 2 inches taller than a DS game
case.
Here
you see the same 3 games, in the same order as before standing up on the
side they would normally open on. You can easily see that the PSP game,
when stacked in thisposition is much shorter than both the DS and DVD
cases.
Here is the
PSP case on top of the standard sized DVD case. About 1 ? inches shorter in
width, and still only about ? inch shorter in height.
Here is
the open PSP case. Sony decided to make the cases clear instead of the
normal black. Though the idea is unique, to other side of the paper used
for the cover art is plain white, giving a very boring look to the whole
case interior. I would have liked to see a pro-stick duo holder on the top
right side of the interior of thecase, similar to the PS2?s memory card
holder.
Here is
a side by side of the PSP manual (right) and an Xbox (same size as PS2 or
DVD inserts)manual (right.) Again, the manual is tall and thin to match the
case.
On the
inside of the front cover you will find this small instructional segment.
It shows you how toproperly take out the UMD from it?s case, and how to
properly put it back. ?EJECTING THE DISC Press the right sideof the
disc until it is in the position shown in the drawing and then removeit. If
excess force is applied this may result in damage to the disc. STORING THE
DISC Insert the bottomside of the disc and then press on the top side
until it clicks into place. Ifthe disc is not stored properly, this may
result in damage to the disc.?
The UMD itself
is apretty strange little device. When inside the case it does not wiggle
around, but when not clicked into place, the disc has about a millimeter of
space tomove around in its protective shell. This means that unnecessarily
shaking theUMD when not clicked into place, could possible result in
scratching the discon the ?protective? shell.
Here is the
UMD(left) next to a mini disc (Gamecube game, middle) and full size DVD
(right.)The UMD is just smaller than the mini disc, and at least half the
size of theDVD.
I hope this informed some of you who have
yet to get yourhands on one of these things. I can assure you that even
though there all somefaults in packaging and such, it will be made up once
that puppy is in yourbrand new PSP.
